Georgia Conservation Voters and Capital Good Fund Team Up to Help Low-Income Families Learn about Innovative Solar Leasing Program

ATLANTA, MAY 21, 2024 – Georgia Conservation Voters (GCV) is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Capital Good Fund’s Georgia BRIGHT program, aimed at enhancing solar accessibility for Georgia homeowners with household incomes under $100,000. This initiative is aligned with President Biden’s Affordable Clean Energy Plan, reflecting a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and equitable energy solutions. On Earth Day, the Georgia BRIGHT coalition received $156M from the EPA’s Solar For All grant, which will dramatically scale the program and bring the benefits of solar to approximately 20,000 households over five years while creating good-paying jobs.

Georgia Conservation Voters canvassing efforts in collaboration with Civic Operations Group and Capital Good Fund have launched in DeKalb County, educating the community about the availability of Georgia BRIGHT as well as the importance of renewable energy. The partnership between Georgia Conservation Voters and Georgia BRIGHT program marks a pivotal step toward a cleaner, more environmentally just future for DeKalb,” said Commissioner Ted Terry (Super District 6). “By making solar energy attainable for homeowners with incomes under $100,000, we are creating inclusive paths to a clean energy future for all Georgians.”

Eligible homeowners can lease solar panels and/or battery storage with no upfront costs, thanks to financing options provided by Georgia BRIGHT. This innovative program saves homeowners money and empowers them to reduce their carbon footprint. Participants will save up to $262.00 on their first year’s power bill, making clean energy more affordable and accessible than ever before.

We are proud to partner with the Georgia BRIGHT program to expand solar access to communities that have historically been underserved in the renewable energy sector,” said Brionté McCorkle, Executive Director of Georgia Conservation Voters. “By democratizing access to solar power, we are not only advancing environmental sustainability but also fostering economic resilience and energy independence for Georgia residents.”

Georgia Conservation Voters and Capital Good Fund’s Georgia BRIGHT program are dedicated to fostering a cleaner, more sustainable energy landscape while ensuring that all Georgians can benefit from the transition to renewable energy sources. This partnership represents a significant step forward in realizing that vision.

Georgia BRIGHT is a community effort and building trust within the community is essential to reaching as many families as possible,” said Capital Good Fund Chief Business Officer and Georgia resident Aisha Bussey. “ We are grateful to Georgia Conservation Voters and Civic Operations Group for the work they are doing to educate homeowners about the benefits of solar energy leasing and for embarking on this historic journey with us.” Hear more from Aisha on this month’s Georgia Conservation Voters’ Greater Greener Georgia podcast episode.
